University of Florence, Friday 19th September ’14: Rudolf Emil Kalman was one of use.
Rudolf Kalman, in front of a full University of Florence’s meeting room, has given a seminar about the born of the Kalman Filter. The seminar had the title:
“It can be done in software!”
Abstract: “We review the invention of the Kalman Filter and the sunsequent evolution of the GPS (Global Positioning System) to explain the claim of the title, that the existence and functioning of modern complex large-scale systems is crucially dependent on directions issued by a computer that is governed by software based on “mathematical” principles.”
Thanks to Prof. E. Kalman for the seminar but bigger thanks for his invention: the Kalman Filter, which is used everywhere (Real Time Localization System, Inertial Navigation Systems, Signal Processing, Tracking, Navigation, etc.).
