DIY Homemade Projector
About 8 years ago my pockets weren’t much full, so I tried to make a homemade projector with low budget and high video quality. After 18 months of night work (in that period I was studying at the University) I built my projector.
Today the projector is still working but it has become obsolete. New projectors have low price and good quality. Unfortunately in ’06 projectors were too much expensive for my wallet.
How my projector works
The principle of projector is very simple: a lamp (in my case a Osram high intensity discharge lamp), lights up a LCD monitor that is mounted between two Fresnel lens. Fresnel lens are able to collimate light rays.

Fresnel Lens
Opposite from the second Fresnel, a lens (usually a triplet lens) allows the focus of the video.

How Works a Projector
The Projector
Because of the size of the LCD monitor (15”) used and the focal distance of the lens, the dimensions of projector aren’t very small. Dimensions are, maybe, the biggest problem in this type of homemade projector. However, I think that today it could be possibile to make a really tiny homemade projector (or more simply you could buy it…argh it’s a joke…nothing is better than a healthy DIY).
And now some photos of an old but still very strong homemade projector…
